National Reading Day is celebrated to spread awareness among the young generation about the importance of reading. The day is also known as “Vaayanadinam”.
The day is observed to pay tribute to the enormous contributions made by the renowned teacher from Kerala, Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker who died on 19th June 1995. P.N Panicker is known as the father of the “Library Movement in Kerala”. Under the Kerala Grandhasala Sangham (KGS), P N Panicker established 47 libraries in 1946.
The theme of the 27th National Reading Day 2022 is “Read and Grow” In keeping with this theme, the Reading club of Saraswathi College of Arts and Science, Vilappil, held a reading competition on 23rd June 2022 and a book review contest on 24 June 2022.
