Day 1: The Department of English organized a lecture series titled “Navigating the Literary Landscape.” On 2nd November 2023, the Academic Director, Prof. N. Jayakumar inaugurated the series. Dr. Swetha Antony, Assistant Professor, Delhi University, commenced the series with a captivating talk on “’What’s Cooking’: An Inquiry into the Interventions of Food in Language, Literature, and Culture.” She began by highlighting the cultural significance of food, seamlessly transitioning into an exploration of its portrayal in films. Engaging students with videos and stills from popular Malayalam movies, Dr. Swetha elicited enthusiastic responses. Shifting focus to the representation of food in literature, she underscored this emerging study area as a source of inspiration for students to delve deeper into the subject. This exploration promises to open new avenues of understanding and appreciation for the intricate relationship between food, language, literature, and culture.
